MORPH1NG - Significance- Morphing is the latest effort of Budello’s influential style. Its recent exhibition consisted of large-scale paintings on wood and installation expressing a powerful recollection of people portrait.. It is an exploration of human diversity throughout a series of portraits of people from around the world. A catalogue of images, which are like fragments of memories. Resembling pictures to be kept in your photo album, prompting recollections of a journey through time, place and people’s emotion. Each of the works in the collection speaks to the rest of them with multiple resonances and echoes. The recurring features of the collection are subject matter and symbolism – apes, human homogeneity, life circle, dignity, portraits, a sense of freedom in materials and methods, emotional resonance, people faces, plain backgrounds, wax, easiness and iconic shoots of the mind… The stylized simplified form is characteristic of Budello’s treatment of the figure from his earliest works dated in the seventies to his most recent exhibition. His figures usually have faces that have the simplicity and sweetness of real emotion and yet, the force and dignity of the human spirit. The portrait seems to come out from the surface and grasp the imagination of the viewer. Budello’s background in cartoon drawing, sculpturing, printmaking, filmmaking and fine art conservation are also clearly visible in his work. The sharp and clean delineated lines as well as the choice of warm or cool tone with high contrast in value and the evanescence of the figures are combined approach to his art. The original and unique use of wax helps the artist to achieve a visual contrast, which hypnotizes the viewer. These choices do not hurt the images visually rather they do make the colour fight with the subject rather than reinforce it and arise the sensuality of the figure by giving a rather visual delight.
